Windows "Illegal Operation" message dialog box.
This program will display the standard Windows 95/98 "Illegal Operation"
dialog box. It appears as though the user's application has crashed. Perfect
for replacing a commonly used shortcut, the user will believe there is
something wrong with the application, or even with the machine.
Dos Format
Dec-99
5K
This one scared the crap out of us! It displays a DOS window that says "Formating Hard Disk Drive" with a percent formatted countdown. Once it's done it displays realistic looking technical and error information.
Fake Format was created by popular demand, and pretends to format a specified drive. Very realistic dialogs, summaries, and even hard drive chatter.
Freak
Oct-98
7K
Challenges you to a complex mathematical equation, penalizes you for answering incorrectly by pretending to delete files, then tosses you to a C:\ prompt and gives you a couple error messages before fessing up.
Going Down
Oct-98
217K
This happy little program will make your victim's system go down... quite literally. Not really scary but definitely hairy. X-rated.
It's only a game
Oct-98
336K
This one actually brings up Windows Explorer and appears to delete every file in your Windows directory one by one. Then it forces you to select shut down and hits you with a promotional advertisement. A cruel joke indeed!
Locutus
Oct-98
6K
Claims to gather system info, then scans your entire hard drive, pretending to delete files as it goes. Clicking cancel only brings up silly messages. You will be assimilated!
Scary Patch
Oct-98
94K
Displays a series of error messages and pretends to format the hard drive. NOTE: This one triggers a virus alert (malware not-virus:BadJoke.Win32.Stript), but seems to be classified as a joke program. Run at your own risk.
Water
Sep-99
21K
Starts with a DOS window containing "Not ready error reading drive C? Abort, Retry, Fail?" Two futile choices result in the message "BIOS ERROR IN MODULE COMMAND.COM? Condensation in disk drive. Press any key to drain?" Do it and it types "Ahhhhh" while playing a trickling water sound through your computer's internal speaker.
WinRecycle
Dec-99
122K
Clicking on what looks like a folder launches an "Are you sure you want to remove the folder 'Windows' and move all its contents to the Recycle Bin?" window. Clicking 'yes' or 'no' results in a fake "Deleting?" window which emulates the removal of a series of files.
